For two weeks my timetable filled up with assignment, meetings, schools, family stuffs etc. And the weather, God, it just unbearably hot hot hot. So it wasn’t exactly surprising I started to feel sick last Wed. At first it just dizziness, later all those nauseous, queasy, throat-burning feelings overwhelmed me. It’s like having seasick constantly and getting dehydrated little by little. Then I was officially grounded on my own bed on Sat because of a fever. I usually have lower body temperature than the normal 37C. So when I see the reading from thermometer all I can say is Wa!

I think the Chinese herbologist actually gave me a discount this time. He said that I had too much heat in my body and it’s important for me to stop eating beef, chicken, ducks……….. and hopefully it will get me to walk in straight line again. Thus I ended up eating the only thing I’m able to eat, congee, and my bitter tea for the past 3 days. It’s good that I lost my sense of taste; otherwise I’d feel even worse with all those mushy, plain flavor stuff.

When you were a kid, you thought the world stopped with you when you got sick. However, being a sicky as an adult, the world keeps spinning. My husband had important clients to entertain for the weekend; I wanted to check my assignments and stock market; my mother and m-in-law went traveling; my dogs need to be fed; my plants need water to survive and the phone calls were just irritating.
‘Hello! This is HSBC, we would like to inform you…’
‘Hi, this is linguaphone. Did you fill in a survey….’
‘This is XXXX, have you ever had credit card problems?’
‘Jessica, we’ve got some new arrivals today.’
‘Jessica dear can we change our appointment on Monday. How come you’re sleeping in the middle of the day? Are you alright?’

So here I am. 2 days’ rest and 1 more pack of bitter tea to go. I’m getting back to normal and I hope I can keep being normal for the near future. At least not to get sick when I’m home alone.

Hi Jessica,

It's been a week for this message. Hope you have been fully recovered from the fever. How are you and Wilson doing?

Take care,
